First aid for dental emergencies
Most dental emergencies can be prevented with good oral hygiene, regular checkups, mouth guards for sports, and night guards after significant dental work. When a dental emergency does occur:
Toothache or abscess – Swish with a warm saltwater solution. Apply an ice pack to soothe facial swelling. Rub an ice cube between your thumb and forefinger, on the same side as your toothache, until the area becomes numb. (It interrupts pain signals to the brain.)
Chipped or broken tooth – Rinse with warm water, and take a non-aspirin over the counter pain reliever if needed. A cool compress may be applied to the cheek if there is swelling.
Dislodged tooth – A dislodged tooth is loose but remains attached to some degree. Try to return the tooth to its proper position, and bite down gently to keep it stabilized until you reach our office.
Knocked out tooth – Time is of the essence. Hold the tooth by the crown (not the roots) and rinse it gently; no scrubbing. If possible, replace the tooth into the socket and bite down gently. Or keep the tooth in milk or a saline solution for transport to the dental office. The goal is to keep the tooth hydrated.
Food or object between teeth – Try to rinse or gently floss the object out. If it will not come out easily, we can use precision instruments to remove the object without harming your teeth.
Whatever your situation may be, our team works quickly and compassionately to restore you to a more comfortable state. Call (305) 680-1551.
Rating : 5 I get my teeth cleaned here every 6 months; surprisingly it's done by a dentist and not a hygienist. I have also gotten fillings done here on a couple of teeth. I had a sensitive tooth and got a fluoride treatment once. All top notch work! Friendly & chatty dentists and front office staff.
Most importantly, I got my wisdom teeth extractions done here. No swelling, almost no pain - quick & easy. And a tooth was impacted!
I have good insurance so my out of pocket is very low, hence I cannot comment on the cost. I highly recommend this office. It's in a nice clean safe neighborhood. Stop by at Trader Joes on your way home.
